"I am the very lucky mother to SSRE rehomer Jack (Augustus Jack).
He is such a joy. A real puppy dog of a horse.
We mostly trail ride, and do liberty work.
He's been a gem learning to respond to voice commands as my legs don't work well enough to give him clear signals".
RIDE ALONG WITH ME NOT JUST ON ME......By Andrew
I have read over 80 application forms for horses, and it's stumped me not once have I read anywhere I want a horse to trust and one who trusts me.
When Jack rolled up he entered the program as just another horse. To me, not alot of wow factor, just an attitude to work and to go.
He would walk me back to his yard and would always be marching on the go, his ground work and lunge work was nice, he came across smart and has a gentle nature but only as if he knew the life style of racing.
His backing was faultless with Brooke backing him while I held him and walked him for multiple days.
I was given the chance to ride him myself for multiple days and although he was sensible to ride- with no spook even in traffic he was far from enjoyable- trying to strip his triggers i removed his bit and replaced with a hackamore.
Today, I trotted on him nearly the slowest I have trotted on any horse here.
He was a lamb, while still learning about it all he is going from strength to strength and now a horse I always think about riding tomorrow and see if he keeps rising above my expectations.
Doing most their groundwork, I always looked at it as if the 2 girls trusted me to hold the horses while they back them. Jack has started to make me think maybe they are trusting me to let the girls on them. I had to trust Jack going bitless and I also was new to it, and he had to trust me.....and what better moments, is there to build a partnership on?
I personally am starting to really like and enjoy this horse, and hope there is someone out there looking for a mate to trust, not to rush but to build and learn, he has amazing movement and is a deadset gentleman, he would be an amazing horse to trail and hack around on whether it's on your farm or trails etc, he gives you that feeling that he would make an amazing endurance horse as he loves to go and now can move and relaxed and never seems to get tired.
We don't just teach these off the track horses they teach us.
